The Catahoula Leopard Dog

The Catahoula Leopard Dog (or the Catahoula Cur) is thought to be the first purebred dog to have originated in North America. It was first bred by Native Americans, and was named after a church in Louisiana. They are a working breed (they are not recognized by AKC), and they come in blue and red merle and occasionally solid colors.
